Construction of a Reliable ICF building
The first layer of interlocking ICF blocks , comprised of standard and corner blocks is laid. The level is checked before sealing the gap between the wall and foundations by Polyurethane (PU) foam adhesive. The next layers of blocks, using different types of blocks as per requirement, are laid with gaps for doors and windows, and steel trestles are placed. After the final layer of blocks has been laid, a steel ring beam is put in place, and concrete is poured.
After the outer boundary of the foundation is laid using brickwork or digout, sewage lines and trap pipes are laid in place followed by a waterproofing membrane layer and steel rebar mesh as per the structural design. The insulation layer is created before concrete is poured to finish the foundation
Multiple floors and Finishing
Once the concrete for the ground floor has been poured, the roof is laid, which can act as the floor for the next level. Plastering is done after all floors are constructed in this manner. Subsequently, the roof, doors, windows, and other finishing touches are put in place. The building is now ready! Any sort of finishing can be done as per the client's requirement. While it is true that you can retrofit your home with insulating materials, it is ideal to insulate during construction i.e. build your home using Reliable ICF. This is because ICF has the added advantage of airtightness, and prevents the formation of thermal bridges. This increases the efficiency of the insulation.
Besides, it costs almost the same amount to build your home with ICF as compared to conventional methods; to insulate the building after construction would mean spending a little extra (even though the insulation would pay for itself, but still), whereas the insulation is almost a freebie in ICF construction. Moreover, it is more economical to insulate during construction.

What is ICF?
Insulated concrete forms or ICF are hollow, interlocking blocks made of EPS or expanded polystyrene (similar to styrofoam) that can be stacked and filled with steel-reinforced concrete to make the walls of a building. Though these ICF forms are used initially to allow a solid concrete wall to be created, they remain in place even after. The USP of ICF construction is that it combines high-strength materials such as the reinforced concrete sandwiched between two layers of light, easy-to-assemble, highly insulating plastic foam, and clad with strong materials such as fibreglass mesh-reinforced polymer cement plaster. This creates a wall with an unusually good combination of desirable properties: air-tightness, strength, sound reduction, thermal insulation and disaster-proofing.
While it is true that the product used in styrofoam/thermocol cups, plates or sheets is flammable, soft, and easily breakable (not qualities anyone wants in a building!), we use a grade of Expanded Polystyrene that is very strong and self-extinguishing. Additionally, the EPS is not the final layer: ICF walls are composites of multiple materials, with several desirable properties. The EPS is clad with fibreglass mesh-reinforced polymer cement. Fibreglass is so strong that it is used to make bulletproof objects! The entire structure is joint-free, with the foundation, walls, and the roof slab all connected by the same steel reinforcements in the monolithic concrete, enabling our constructions to withstand natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and cyclones.
Natural insulation material vs man made products, which are superior ?
Man-made insulating materials
are of calculable insulation value to incorporate it into the design and provide the recommended resistance to heat flow,
can be contained within a conventional, lightweight, low-cost roof framing system, and
are more long-lasting
Naturally occurring insulating materials are mostly heavy and the structure necessary to support it is expensive.
Higher cost of such materials, such as sheep wool, is also a deterrent, even though it is light weight.
Therefore, it makes more sense to insulate with lightweight man-made materials.
